Spirometry
This course is intended to assist health professionals in gaining the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to perform spirometry testing. The course refers to the current American Thoracic Society (ATS) and European Respiratory Society (ERS) guidelines as the recognized standards of practice.
Requirements
Academic Programme
This course is delivered by online learning and includes theory notes, a video, knowledge tests and completion of two case studies.
Practical Work
Completion of a logbook of 10 spirometry tests and a competency assessment, which are performed under direct supervision. Biological control testing is also required, including submission of a report.
Case Studies
An appropriate clinical supervisor is required for course acceptance. The supervisor must be either a qualified respiratory physiologist or a person who has completed an approved spirometry practical training course and regularly performs spirometry testing.
Course Duration
Approximately 60 hours.
