Certification of
Cardiac Physiologists

The Certification of Cardiac Physiologists (CCP) is a continuation of the CPM course. The CCP programme is an additional year-long course consisting of more advanced training, although parts of these courses are often done simultaneously. A trainee must complete this course alongside the Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Technology (MTEC) and achieve two years of full-time work experience in order to qualify as a cardiac physiologist..

Requirements

Academic Programme

Four e-Learning modules consisting of notes, videos, and short quizzes;

  • Ambulatory Monitor Analysis

  • Cardiac Catheterisation for Coronary Artery Disease

  • Pacemaker Implantation & Follow-up

  • Echocardiography

Practical Work

Within ambulatory ECG monitor analysis and cardiac catheterisation modules, the trainees are required to complete a logbook, case studies and direct observation of procedural skills (DOPS) forms before practicing independently in these procedures. The Pacemaker Implantation and Followup module requires completion of a logbook, DOPS and case studies. The trainee is not competent to practice this procedure independently on completion of this course. The Echocardiography module requires the trainee to observe cases only.

Case Studies

Students are required to complete several case studies as they progress through the practical work - one for monitor analysis, three for catheterisation, and ten for pacemaker follow-up.
