Basic ECG Interpretation Course

The aim of the ECG interpretation foundation course is to assist with recognising ECG rhythms and abnormalities, and providing an understanding of their significance.

The course is intended to provide a basic level of ECG knowledge and is ideally suited to medical staff who are required to monitor the ECG during the procedures they perform or carry out measurements on or related to the ECG. Examples of such roles are: sleep physiologists, sonographers, cardiac catheterisation staff who are not trained as cardiac physiologists, specialised nursing positions and appropriately employed international applicants.

The course is delivered through an online learning system where students are provided with a personal login to access the course. The online learning system may be accessed via a PC, laptop, tablet, or smart phone that has internet access. Students may start the course at any time and can work through the training material at their own pace. If a manager requires the course to be completed within a particular time frame this should be arranged between the manager and student.

The training material provided includes: reading material, videos, assignments, and tests which are intended to consolidate the learning and provide practice in ECG interpretation. This course does not assess practical competency in performing ECGs. Once the training material has been completed a completion certificate will be awarded.
