The Society of Cardiopulmonary Technology (NZ) Incorporated is the professional society for cardiac technicians and technologists around New Zealand. The aims of the society are to improve the training, education and professional status of persons engaged in the science and practice of cardiopulmonary technology.
The Society is administered by an elected Council, which communicates with its members via newsletters and the website. The Council holds regular meetings, prepares and distributes the correspondence courses and organises the examinations. For information on applying for membership to SCT, visit the Membership Page.
The society has run education courses in the field of cardiac technology since 1974. The society administrates correspondence education courses: A one year course designed for Technicians performing ECGs (CPM), and a two year practical competency course for Technologists (CCP). For further information on these and other education courses provided by SCT, go to the Education Page.
SCT is closely aligned with the Clinical Physiologists Registration Board (CPRB) in New Zealand. The board was developed in 1997 to improve the professional status of all technicians and technologists in New Zealand.
